"Incidentilomas"
Pituitary lesions or tumors are found frequently during
evaluation of the brain for other conditions. Up to 10% of men
and women over the age of 30 may harbor a pituitary lesion.
Fortunately the bulk of these lesions are benign and will cause no
problems through the lifespan of the individual. The work of
the endocrinologist is to find out which of these lesions are
hormonically active (lesions that make hormones), or even lesion
that will keep growing causing damage to the brain, vessels or
nerves close to the lesion.
